Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

FIDE Practice App ("we", "us", or "our") is a language-learning app designed to help you prepare for the FIDE exam. We take your privacy seriously and keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the service.

1. What we collect

  • Account information — your name and email address when you sign in with Google OAuth.
  • Progress data — your lesson completions, scores, streaks, and subscription status so the app works correctly.
  • Usage data — anonymous analytics on this website (pages viewed, which buttons and links are clicked, browser, device type and language) to understand what is useful and improve the product. See section 5.

2. Voice & speech data

When you use speaking exercises, your voice is sent to Google Cloud Vertex AI (Gemini models), processed in an EU region, for real-time speech-to-text and text-to-speech processing. We do not store your voice recordings. Audio is processed in transit and discarded immediately after the result is returned to you.

3. How we use your data

  • To provide and personalise the app experience.
  • To track your learning progress across sessions.
  • To manage your account and subscription.
  • To send important service emails (e.g. receipt, password reset). We do not send marketing emails without your consent.

4. Third-party services

  • Google OAuth — handles sign-in. We receive only your name and email.
  • Google Cloud Vertex AI (Gemini) — processes speech in real time and evaluates your responses, in an EU region. No audio is stored, and your data is not used to train Google's models.
  • Supabase — our database and authentication backend. Data is stored in EU data centres.
  • Cloudflare — hosts the app and provides CDN/security. Cloudflare may log IP addresses for abuse prevention.
  • Stripe — handles payment processing. We do not store your card details; they go directly to Stripe.
  • RevenueCat — manages subscription state and entitlements across platforms.
  • PostHog — anonymous website analytics, processed on PostHog's EU infrastructure. See section 5.

5. Analytics and cookies

We use PostHog to see how this website is used — which pages are visited and which buttons are clicked. Data is processed on PostHog's EU infrastructure under a data processing agreement.

We use no cookies and store no identifier on your device, and nothing is linked to a profile or used for advertising.

6. Data retention

We keep your account and progress data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days.

7. Your rights

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time via our Contact page. If you are in the EEA or UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8. Children

FIDE Practice App is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under that age.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If changes are significant we will notify you by email or via an in-app notice. Continued use of the app after the effective date means you accept the updated policy.

FIDE Practice App is not affiliated with the official FIDE secretariat.
